Through Hulls

14/03/10

This is the vent for the VBT.  The plans seem to show it right in the middle, but I didn't fancy cutting a hole in the main hull weld so I moved it slightly to one side.  With advice from the club, I cut this hole very tight in order to keep the gap as small as possible.  As a result, it initially didn't fit and I had to open it up a little with a hand file.  This is a standard 3” 316L Sched 80 pipe nipple.  I preheated it all and welded it in using 309L electrodes at 90 amps.  I still have to weld the other side but I will complete that once I spin the hull over.
