The machining was quite straight forward at first. Very slow at just 33 RPM, but it cut fine once it got going. The trouble is that I either didn't have enough penetration on the weld bead, or I overdid it and went a cut too deep. Basically, I machined off to much of the stainless and the flat surface shows quite a lot of mild steel patches showing through. So, I’ve welded it all back up and am going to have to start again. Next time I will not go as far down. I was trying to leave a nice smooth edge, but I think I’ll put on a small bevel instead and leave more of the stainless on. I’m putting this down as an “experience”, rather than a cock up. |
