Hatch

There is an error on the plans.  At first I thought I had made something wrong but I have checked and treble checked everything.  I have also spoken to guys in the club who confirm the same thing.

At first, I made the hatch dogs, brackets and lugs the same as the plans.  When I offered them up to fit, they did not, by quite a considerable way.  As the plans are full scale, I can simply place the parts over the dwg and you can see what I mean.  At the top (Picture 1) is the none fitting parts as made per the plans.

I’d thought that I might be able to weld the lugs on the other way around (Picture 2), this gets the dogs to fit to the brackets, but might be awkward to get on and off.

Eventually, I re-made the dogs without the bend.  I also cut the slot a little deeper into the lug.  Picture 3 is now how they are and you can see they fit.

These are all complete and fitted now.  It was a bit of a pain to make them twice, but its done now and the hatch closes tight.

NOTE:  In all the drawings, the ruler to the right simulates where the tower shell is.  Also, the part of the bracket that appears to stick into the shell is cut off flush once the brackets are welded on.  This was so I didn't cut too much off before fittings and have the brackets fold up too high.
