I had the variable tank grit blasted again and have re-welded the final capping runs. This was quite a bit of work and might not have been neccesary, but I just wasn’t happy with the original final weld bead on the tank. There was a bit of undercut in places and it just looked scrappy. It’s been niggling at me for some time, particually with the upcoming pressure test. Now I’ve re-done it I am much more confident with this tank. I took the oppertunity to replace the low carbon steel mounting brackets with stainless. I was very careful to try and make sure the new ones were in exactly the same place as the old, plus I drilled the mounting holes a little larger to try to accomodate any slight variation. I haven’t done a test fit, but I bet despite my best efforts, it’s just slightly off. Plus I now have to pour in more paint to try and cover the no doubt burned off paint on the inside. |
