I used the sucker from a car GPS which was perfect for holding the lens so I could level it up and push it in.  This was quite wasteful on the sealant as most of it was squished out, but I wanted to be sure it was filled all the way down the edge.  Once in position, I tidied up the seal edge and temporarily held the lens tight in place with a piece of wood.
